The Marblehead Toad Cup was sailed on 9 May at Patawalonga Lake in light to moderate A Rig conditions that remained steady throughout the day. Despite persistent rain and troublesome weed on the course, the six-boat fleet enjoyed an extremely competitive regatta with every skipper spending time both at the front and back of the fleet during the 18-race series.

Racing was expertly conducted by Phil Scapens, assisted by Neil How and David Lane, allowing a full schedule of racing to be completed in what turned into a long and wet day on the water.

The difficult conditions placed a strong emphasis on consistency and weed management, with the lead changing hands regularly across the fleet. In the end, the skill and consistency of Brett Osborn sailing his Grunge design Marblehead proved decisive, securing a narrow overall victory with seven race wins from the 18 races sailed.

Simon How sailing a Red Ant F6 pushed Brett all the way, finishing just two points behind after a highly consistent series that included five race victories of his own.

Danny James looked particularly strong during the opening stages of the regatta and appeared well placed to challenge for overall honours before boat issues later in the day impacted his results. Despite the setbacks, Danny still secured a well-earned podium finish, narrowly ahead of Paul Littledyke.

Randy Elkson and Tim Paynter rounded out the fleet, both showing flashes of impressive pace throughout the day and contributing to the close racing across the series.

The regatta once again demonstrated the close and enjoyable nature of Marblehead racing in South Australia, with competitive racing throughout the fleet, excellent race management and challenging conditions combining to produce an outstanding day on the water at Glenelg.
