Eleven skippers entered this event four from NSW, one from Victoria and the remainder from South Australia which was held at Tiranna Way, West Lakes, SA over two days (18-19 March). Unfortunately the Tasmanians were not represented this year however they are hosting the 2025 National Championship at Montrose Bay, Hobart February 12th to 13th.

Monday the 18th saw a full fleet assembled to contest an “Invitation” race promoted by the RO Alex Hayter unfortunately only nine were able to take part, one winch failure and the other radio receiver failure.

Racing then commenced. Conditions were light to moderate for the days’ racing with a switch in wind direction and increase in strength after lunch. Racing was conducted in a good manner under firm control of the RO.

Tuesday saw a weather forecast of strengthening winds which influenced a number of skippers to set B rigs.  One skipper did not really have a choice as his A rig was damaged.  Unfortunately for those the stronger winds did not eventuate and some suffered with a lack of power. One skipper changed his rig but too late to influence his position favourably.

Congratulations to Tim Arland (SA) for taking out first place with Chris Juttner (SA) second and Warren Norrie (NSW) third. The Grand Master was Bob Whitehead (SA) and the Master Barry Grant (NSW).

Congratulations to the RO for a well-run event with firm control.  Thanks go to the South Australian Radio Yacht Club for hosting the event and their Club members who volunteered to assist with running the event.  A special thank you goes to the Port River Sailing Club for providing their rescue boat which made the course setting much more efficient.
