The ARYA announces the decision to regrettably cancel the 2021 IOM Australian Championship scheduled for later this month.
A number of states have outlined their pathways of easing COVID-19 restrictions including the South Australian Government, who has indicated easing of restrictions from all states & territories from 23 November, 2021.
The likelihood of states such as Queensland, Tasmania & Western Australia imposing restrictions on competitors visiting South Australia from this date is extremely high given they have planned their proposed easing of restrictions from mid-December (QLD/TAS).
This along with the risk of a delay with SA easing of restrictions creates a significant level of uncertainty and clarity of what restrictions would be applicable for those wishing to compete in the championship.
In addition, the ARYA Committee agreed acceptance of resolution 2021-3 in September which outlined the requirements to be met for the scheduled championship to be held, which included, competitors from a minimum of four states to be able to travel freely to/from South Australia as well as a minimum of four entrants from each of a minimum of four states. As of the assessment date (05 November) this criteria has not been met.
Accordingly, the ARYA has decided that based on the above, the 2021 IOM Australian Championship will be cancelled.
ARYA President Andrew Reid expressed his disappointment with having to cancel this event and with the current uncertainty of the success of the event stated that “it may not be the event we imagined”. In addition he wishes to thank the SA Association and the organising committee for their support with the organisation of the event.
Entrants will receive a full refund of their entry fee credited to the card used for payment. These shall be processed and credited to accounts within 5-10 days.
Details of the 2022 IOM Australian Championship schedule will be announced as soon as possible.
