The 2026 A Class Australian Championship got underway today at the picturesque Illawarra Yacht Club in New South Wales, with a competitive fleet of 13 skippers contesting the national title over two days of racing, 23–24 February.
Illawarra Yacht Club has welcomed competitors from across the country, with sailors eager to test themselves in what promises to be a closely fought championship. With only two days scheduled, consistency will be critical, and every race result will play an important role in determining the outcome.
The opening day saw the fleet take to the water in favourable, albeit light conditions, allowing race officials to begin building a series that will ultimately crown Australia’s newest A Class National Champion.
Racing will conclude tomorrow, when the 2026 champion will be decided.
