The Marblehead class headed back to Yarrawonga for the 2023 Victorian Marblehead State Championship held over the weekend of 17-18 June.
A fleet of thirteen boats battled it out in trying conditions with 4 rig changes on day one. Fifteen races were completed on the first day with no weed in sight but some serious chop on the water made life difficult for most skippers. David Mitchell seemed to enjoy the harsh conditions winning five of six races in the afternoon. Russell Harding had a tough start along with Patrick O’Donnell while Patrick Parisienne had a day to forget with his mast protruding through the bottom of his boat. Positions at the end of the day were Scott Condie 29 leading from David Mitchell 34 and Scott Fleming 3rd on 38.
Day two the swing rigs are fitted and Patrick was able to join the fleet again with temporary repairs and a 3rd in the first race for the day. Twenty four races were completed and the ever consistent Scott Condie left the rest of the fleet behind him in a comfortable win to take out the Title of best RM skipper in the Vic state titles for 2023. Many thanks to Scott Fleming Andrew Reid and Rob Nowak for organising the event.
A big thank you to Thomas for opening the club facility for us and special thanks to Jayne for scoring and Cameron Davies who had his work cut out for him considering the conditions.
Cheers
Mario
