Tony White has claimed the 2021 SA DF65 State Championship title by a solitary point ahead of fellow S@LV sailor Danny James at West Lakes on 05 December.
This was the second DF65 SA State Championship event and while a small fleet of ten boats this included Phil Burgess who had trekked across the border from NSW for a weekend of DF sailing.
The day started with Danny James, Tony White, Johan Bergkvist, Phill Burgess all coming straight out of the blocks with tight battles at front of the fleet with A+ rigs, and as the breeze increased just before lunch some skippers opted to change down to A rigs while others skipped straight to B.
After sixteen races had been completed before lunch, the skippers were indecisive to rig selection with racing to recommence with some putting bets on a building sea breeze choosing B rigs, some stayed with A, whiles others went with trying to cover the holes in the breeze with their A+.
Johan was the man to catch at that point but had to leave the competition for family commitments (he was in the box seat at that point and the man to catch).
Phil Burgess, Tony White, Danny James, were the men to watch steadily shadowing each other through each subsequent heat. Seven different heat winners were welcomed to the winner circle, while small little battle groups also developed where bragging rights taken seriously.
In the end Tony White 1st to Danny James 2nd by a single point with Phil Burgess 3rd a further six points behind.
